Volunteer for Overdose Awareness Day

Help place memorial flags.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a global day held every August 31 to remember the people we have lost to overdose, to support the families who love them, and to reduce the stigma around substance use disorder.

SAFE Coalition is placing memorial flag displays in five towns, and anyone can help. Each flag honors one of the 978 people who died from overdose in Massachusetts last year.

Volunteers are needed for two shifts:
  • Place flags: Saturday, August 29, from 9 to 11 a.m.
  • Remove flags: Tuesday, September 1, from 9 to 10 a.m.
Displays will be in Franklin, Wrentham, Norfolk, Medway, and Millis. Volunteers choose their town when they sign up.

This work involves being outside and standing or bending for up to two hours. SAFE provides the flags. Volunteers should be 18 or older or accompanied by a guardian
